Canvas Prints: Everything You Need to Know About Canvas Prints

One of the most common questions I get asked is “What is the difference between a ‘Canvas Print’ and a ‘Stretched Canvas Print’”?”

Both the ‘Canvas’ and ‘Stretched Canvas’ options are printed to be a Gallery Wrapped Canvas, which means that the artwork is printed on canvas with additional canvas around the image. The width of a gallery wrapped canvas is 1.5 inches. All of my ‘Canvas Prints’ come with additional canvas to be stretched at a later date or it can be trimmed and put in a frame.

I provide 3 options when ordering a canvas print — ‘Canvas’ and ‘Stretched Canvas’ and ‘Trimmed Canvas’.

The ‘Canvas’ option is rolled up and shipped in a tube and when it arrives, you can take it to your local framer (or a store like Michaels) and get it stretched. They will ensure the rolled canvas is ready-to-hang when they are finished. A framer can also trim the additional canvas and have the canvas framed.

The ‘Stretched Canvas’ option is when the canvas is stretched over stretcher bars and is wired so it arrives ready to hang. All that you need to do is to unpackaged your artwork from the box and put it up on your wall.

The third option is a ‘Trimmed Canvas’. The canvas is trimmed to size and fits in a standard size frame. On occasion, the image is slightly cropped to allow for a standard size print.

You can can see a variety of images of my prints on my Instagram account @alexhuntstudio.

These ‘Trimmed Canvas’ prints are borderless and fit in standard size frames.

The prints shown are: ‘Garden Escape’, ‘Sweet Like Honey’, and ‘More Love’ sized at 18 x 24 inches.
